READY FOR A CONSULTATION?
Are you bothered by excess, loose skin on your upper arms? This can occur due to aging or weight loss, which can lead to sagging skin which causes discomfort and poor body image. Brachioplasty surgery, also known as an arm lift, is an effective way to improve the appearance of the upper arms for good. If this sounds like a procedure you would be interested in, read on to learn more!
Who is a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?
Healthy men and women who would like to eliminate excess lax skin on their upper arms may be able to benefit from this procedure. Good candidates must be at a stable weight, be nonsmokers, and have no issues with healing. However, the best way to determine if you are a good candidate is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Newman. During this meeting, you will speak with your surgeon regarding your medical history and your aesthetic goals so that a treatment plan can be created for you.
What to Expect During this Procedure
Brachioplasty surgery is performed using general anesthesia, which means you will be asleep during surgery. Dr. Newman will begin by creating incisions on the underside of your arms. The length of these incisions will depend on how much skin needs to be removed. After the incisions are made, underlying tissues will be tightened, and skin removed to create a better arm contour. Sometimes, liposuction is also used to sculpt the arms. Your skin will then be draped over the new contours and stitches will be used to close incisions.
Aftercare
Once your arm lift is completed, your incisions will be covered with bandages. Small tubes may also be placed temporarily to drain excess fluid or blood while you’re healing. Following surgery, be sure to avoid lifting your arms above shoulder height for 3-4 weeks, avoid physical activity that may stretch your incisions for 4-8 weeks, and take any prescribed medications as directed.
Once swelling and bruising reduce, your final results will become more noticeable. Once fully healed, results are permanent, as long as you maintain a stable, healthy weight.
Benefits of an Arm Lift
The benefits of Brachioplasty surgery can be aesthetic, physical, and psychological. This procedure reduces sagging skin under the arm, improves your comfort level, prevents inflammation and rashes due to excess skin, and improves self-esteem. It can also make it easier to perform certain tasks or take part in certain activities that was not possible with excess arm skin.
