Are you tired of waxing, plucking, or shaving unwanted body hair? Are you looking for smoother, silkier skin, permanently If so, laser hair removal is the answer! This nonsurgical treatment option is a great solution to unwanted facial and body hair for a more comfortable and confident you!

What is the Diode Laser?

The diode laser uses selective photothermolysis (SPTL) to target melanin in hair follicles. The lasers damage the chromophores by selectively heating them while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed. During laser hair removal, the melanin in the hair follicles is targeted and damaged, resulting in the disruption of hair growth and regeneration.

Compared to other laser systems such as the Ruby and Alexandrite, the diode laser’s 800nm wavelength offers the deepest penetration levels and superior melanin absorption. These unique characteristics make the diode laser the most appropriate technology for laser hair removal, enabling safe and effective treatment of all skin and hair types, on all areas of the body.

Who is a Good Candidate for the Diode Laser?

If you are living with unwanted facial or body hair that is causing self-consciousness or limits your ability to wear certain clothing items, you may be able to benefit from laser hair removal. The best candidates will be those with dark hair and light skin, as the laser needs to detect melanin in order to treat the hair follicles. However, the best way to determine if this treatment is right for you is through a consultation with Dr. Newman.

The Diode Laser Procedure

To prepare for laser hair removal, protective eyewear will be placed over your eyes. The hair that will be treated will then be trimmed. During treatment, a cool ultrasound gel is first applied to the area.  Then the handpiece is applied, and the treatment is delivered.  The handpiece has a chill tip that cools the skin as it delivers treatment, improving patient comfort.

Multiple treatment sessions are required to see optimal results. Typically, 3-8 treatment sessions are needed, though this may vary depending on the individual.

Downtime and Recovery

Following laser hair removal, you may notice minor redness or skin irritation, however, this is temporary. There is no downtime required following laser hair removal treatments. Laser hair removal patients can return to work or even go swimming the same day laser hair removal treatments are completed. However, it is important to protect treated areas from sun exposure and to wear sunscreen when spending time outdoors.
