QUICK REFERENCE
Are you struggling with stubborn pockets of fat that just won’t budge? Liposuction is an effective solution for eliminating unwanted fat from almost any area of the body for a slimmer and more proportionate figure.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a body contouring treatment to slim and reshape targeted areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits. Liposuction can be used on almost any area of the body, including the thighs, hips and buttocks, abdomen, upper arms, back, chest, cheeks, calves, and more! Liposuction is also often combined with other procedures to help further improve results.
Who is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Individuals who have localized areas of fat deposits that are the cause of a disproportionate figure often opt for liposuction. Ideal candidate will have good skin elasticity, be no more than 20 pounds over their goal weight and have a stable weight. Women who are planning on future pregnancies should wait until after childbearing to have liposuction, as pregnancy can negatively impact results.
It is also important to understand that liposuction is a not a weight loss solution for individuals who are obese. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is through a consultation appointment.
The Liposuction Procedure
During the liposuction procedure, cannulas are inserted through small incisions in the treatment area. These cannulas will be used to suction out targeted areas of excess fat. It requires the use of a “wetting solution” which is a local anesthetic mixed with another medication in IV fluids which is injected before surgery. This solution causes blood vessels to constrict, minimizing blood loss and reducing post-surgical pain.

Downtime and Recovery
You will need to wear special compression garments to help reduce swelling and support your new body contours. Redness and swelling are the be expected, and any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Patients should avoid straining, bending, and lifting during their recovery period to help ensure optimal results.
While the recovery period may vary based on each patient, most individuals can return to work within a few days following liposuction. Full results can often be seen after swelling goes down. Because liposuction incisions are small, scarring is often insignificant. Be sure to follow Dr. Newman’s post-op instruction to help ensure a smooth recovery.
