QUICK REFERENCE
Not everyone requires a surgical procedure to achieve the enhancement they need. With injectables, you can look younger without going under the knife.
What are Injectables?
Injectables offer a nonsurgical solution to achieving facial rejuvenation for a younger appearance, filling in or smoothing out the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dr. Newman offers several injectable options, depending on your unique signs of aging. While there are many injectables used in medical aesthetics, not all injectables accomplish the same goal. Formulas include:
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators are a form of injectables that target the facial nerves, preventing them from telling the muscles to contract. This improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles that are caused by facial expressions. Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® are the most popular neuromodulator injectables that Dr. Newman offers. Both formulas can effectively improve the appearance of wrinkles in the upper face lie crow’s feet in the outer corners of the eyes, frown lines between the brows, and forehead lines. The effects of neuromodulators take just a few days to show results and can last for 3-6 months.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers work by adding volume to facial lines, wrinkles, and folds either instantly or over time. Hyaluronic acid formulas are popular for adding instant volume and moisture, while other formulas stimulate the body’s own collagen production for gradual results over time. Filler formulas work on static wrinkles in the lower face such as smile lines, nasolabial folds, and lip lines. Some formulas can also be added to the lips for a natural-looking enhancement, or the cheeks for a subtle lift. Depending on the formula, injectable fillers can last for 6-18 months. Dr. Newman offers the following filler formulas:
- Juvederm®
- Revanesse® Versa
- Radiesse®
- Sculptra®
Who is a Candidate for Injectables?
Candidates for injectable are those that experience some of the first signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. These are caused by a combination of repeated facial expression, a natural loss of collagen with age, and sun exposure. Injectables can help patients look younger without the use of surgery or downtime. some patients also choose injectable formulas after a surgical procedure to help prolong their results. Those with severe skin allergies of those that are pregnancy may not be candidates for treatment with injectables.
The Injectable Procedure
Before injectables are placed, the skin will be cleansed and prepped. Several injection points will then be mapped out, depending on the location of lines and wrinkles. an expert injector like Dr. Newman knows exactly where to place formulas so that they will provide the safest, most effective results. A small amount of the chosen formula will then be placed below the skin. This process can take about 10-30 minutes to complete.
Dr. Newman and his staff I wish I could give them a 10 star rating. From day one they were very professional and gave me exactly what I asked for. – Leisa M.
Downtime and Recovery
Because injectables are nonsurgical, no downtime is necessary after treatment. Patients might experience side effects like redness, swelling, and itching at the injection sites, but this should resolve very quickly. To avoid increased swelling, patients should avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours and stay out of direct sunlight.
It’s important to be treated by a clinician who understands the indications for the use of injectables and who possesses an artistic eye. Many injectors lack the surgical experience to appreciate 3 dimensional relationships of anatomy. Plastic Surgeon Dr. Christopher Newman has years of experience with both Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers while possessing the artistic eye to accomplish these goals.
