There are many lift factors that can cause the breasts to droop and sag, causing self-consciousness for many women. Thankfully, a breast lift can help to lift the breasts to a more youthful, perkier position for a more youthful silhouette.

What is a Breast Lift?

Breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to reshape the breasts, reduce sagging, and raise the position of the nipples and the areolae. The size of the areolae can also be reduced during the procedure to keep them in proportion to the newly shaped breasts.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is done to correct sagging and uneven breasts and to position the breasts and nipple areola to a more youthful position. A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity can result from:

Women who are dealing with sagging breasts due to these factors and desire improved breast shape, projection, and symmetry, a breast lift may be able to help. Ideal candidates will be in good general health and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is through a consultation with Dr. Newman.

The Breast Lift Procedure

The breast lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. This procedure can be done using three incisions:

Donut Incision- Is created around the nipple areola.

Lollipop Incision- Is created around the nipple areola and extends down to the breast crease.

Anchor Incision- Is created around the nipple areola, extends down to the breast crease, and continues horizontally along the inframammary fold.

Dr. Newman will remove excess breast skin and move the nipple and areola to a higher, more youthful position. Dr. Newman will tighten the skin, sewing the breast back together and placing sutures deep into the breast tissue to support your new breast position. Scars can be hidden by bikini tops and bras.

A breast lift won’t significantly change the size of your breasts. However, a breast lift can be done in combination with breast augmentation or breast reduction.

I couldn’t say enough wonderful things about my experience with Dr. Newman and his staff. I am a breast cancer reconstruction patient and from my first consultation, he made me feel like I was in the best of hands. He put my mind at ease, was incredibly knowledgeable and spent a ton of time with me answering all of the questions that I had. I knew immediately that I wanted to be in his care. My surgeries went without a hitch and I am very pleased with my results. It is clear that he truly cares about his patients. I would highly recommend Dr. Newman to anyone looking for the best of care. – Elisa L.

Downtime and Recovery

Following surgery, patients may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising. This will typically resolve within two to three weeks. Pain medication may help make patients more comfortable following a breast lift surgery. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise, as well as sleeping on your stomach for two to four weeks after your surgery. Patients are required to wear a surgical bra for several days, which will help to reduce swelling and support your new breast contours. Patients are normally able to return to light activities and work after about a week.
